The Power of WORDS!

Proverbs 25:11 says, " A WORD fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver"! Proverbs 18:21 also says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue..." and Proverbs 12:14, 18:20 tells us that that a person who speaks appropriately is a success in all of life. These proverbs reflect the Israelite concept of the power of words. No goal is worthy of greater attention than managing our words well. Proverbs 13:3 and 21:23 put the matter more directly. Guarding our lips preserves our lives and keeps us out of trouble and the opposite is also true. Failure to guard our lips puts our lives at risk and covers us with trouble.

Proverbs 15:23 and 25:11 speak of the value of the right word at the right time. How wonderful it is to be able to say the right thing at the right time.

Proverbs 15:4 says that a gentle tongue is a tree of life. The importance of speaking the right words should regularly send us to the prayer of Psalm 19:14, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."

Let our words bring joy and health to other people and may it better reflect Jesus Christ in the days that lie ahead!
